Stay compliant with automated course refreshers

1-minute read

Whether it’s annual security training or quarterly policy updates, some learning never truly "ends." GoSkills course refreshers automate the process of recertification, ensuring your team stays current and compliant without you having to manually re-assign courses every year.

The benefits of course refreshers

  • Set it and forget it: Automate recurring training so you don't have to track expiration dates in a spreadsheet.
  • Cleaner dashboards: Courses only reappear for learners when it’s actually time to retake them, keeping their assignments list focused.
  • Historical tracking: Maintain a permanent record of every completion and certificate for compliance audits.
  • Flexible intervals: Set refreshers to trigger:
    • Weekly
    • Monthly
    • Quarterly
    • Twice a year
    • Every 2 years
    • Custom periods (every X months or years)
    • Specific date (e.g. April 15, then you can repeat once on that date, or monthly, quarterly, or yearly from that date)

How to set up a course refresher

You can add a refresher to any assignment—whether it's for an individual, a specific team, or your entire organization.

  1. Go to the assignments tab, then click ‘Create an Assignment’ and select your course. If that course is already assigned, you will find it on the list of assignments below.
  2. Add your learners: Assign the course to individuals, teams, or the entire organization.
  3. Find the refresher column: In the assignment table, you’ll see a new Refresher column. Click Schedule refresher.
  4. Configure the schedule:
    • First due date: Choose a relative date (e.g., "30 days after assignment") or a specific calendar date.
    • Repeat refresher: Choose an exact date for the refresher (e.g., July 4th). You can optionally set it to repeat monthly, quarterly, or annually on that date -- or leave it as a one-time refresher with no repeat.
    • Assign refresher: Choose when the course should "pop up" on the learner’s dashboard (e.g., 14 days before the course refresher is due). This keeps the assignment hidden until it’s relevant.
    • Set reminders: Toggle notifications to nudge learners about their upcoming (or overdue) deadlines."

Pro tip: Check the Summary section at the bottom of the setup window. It provides a breakdown of exactly how the course refresher will work for your learners.
